Wall Cladding Installation Winchester
Wall Cladding Installation services in Winchester
We install wall cladding on Winchester homes and their extensions, including Winnall’s post-war houses, which are built in brick. Our own team erects the tower scaffold or scaffolding and fixes the breather membrane, battens, boards and trims.
We price every installation from a free site survey conducted by a director. You receive a written, itemised quote within 48 hours of that survey, with no hidden extras. We respond within 48 hours. The directors bring over 15 years of combined hands-on experience. We carry up to £5 million public liability insurance.

What decides how a Winchester home is clad?
In Hyde, red brick is the main wall material. On a red brick wall there, each batten fixing holds in the brickwork. The form of each wall and the finish it already carries determine how the battens are fixed, where the boards stop and how the wall is reached. On a Winchester home, a wall cladding installation is decided by the following situations:
A gable end clad on its own
Where the gable is the only elevation we clad, the cladding runs up to the underside of the verge. The team closes the raking top edge with a trim. A tower scaffold serves a split-level gable where it stands tall enough, and scaffolding is erected where it does not. A director specifies that access at the survey.
In the walled core, the gables set among the parapet walls are built in brick or finished in hanging tiles.
Render or pebbledash beneath the new boards
We install the cladding over the existing render or pebbledash, and every batten fixing passes through that finish into the wall behind it. A director assesses the finish and the masonry beneath it at the survey. Any repair the wall needs is priced in the quote as its own item and completed before the membrane is fixed.
Around Kingsgate, some houses are finished in painted stucco or render.
Cladding already on the wall
Where a wall already carries cladding, the team removes every existing board and keeps none for reuse. Once the boards are off, the wall takes the membrane and battens in the same way as a wall that has never been clad. That job is a cladding replacement, and we clad the wall in full as a new installation. Replacing individual failed boards is the external cladding repair service and is not part of an installation.
At Teg Down and Oliver’s Battery, houses of the 1960s and 1970s are built in brick with weatherboarding.
The eaves line above the new boards
The new cladding stops at a line beneath the eaves. The team cuts the top row of boards to that line and closes the top edge with a trim. A fascia or soffit at the eaves is part of the roof, and work to either of them is a roof fascia repair.
Stanmore’s immediate post-war houses are two storeys throughout.
A semi-detached or terraced house
On a semi-detached pair or a terrace, the cladding stops at the line between your house and the next, and the team closes that edge with a trim.
Winnall’s post-war houses are two storeys high and flat-fronted, and they stand in groups of semi-detached pairs and short and long terraces.
What do Winchester walls mean for a cladding installation?
Houses in the western suburb are mostly red brick. Some are finished in painted stucco or render, and a sound stucco or render finish stays in place beneath the new boards. At Riverside and on St Giles’ Hill, hanging tiles are a wall finish alongside brick and flint, and sound tile hanging also stays in place beneath the new boards.
Houses at Sleepers Hill, Oliver’s Battery, Teg Down and Highcliffe stand on sloping sites. Where the ground falls away along a house, its downhill wall is taller from the ground to the eaves, so the scaffold erected at that wall stands taller.
Flooding in Winchester is mainly groundwater flooding after prolonged rainfall. Late in a very wet winter it can last for several months, and for that time the water stands against the base of each wall it reaches.

How do we clad a home in Winchester?
A director oversees every cladding installation in Winchester from the survey to the final inspection, and our own team carries out the work at each stage:
A survey of every wall to be clad
A director surveys each wall to be clad, measuring the elevation and assessing the wall behind its existing finish. We go through the board options with you at the property, including fibre cement cladding and uPVC wall cladding, and agree the board and its colour. The written, itemised quote is issued within 48 hours of that survey.
Access agreed for each wall
A director decides at the survey whether a tower scaffold or scaffolding serves each elevation. The method statement records each of those decisions, and it is agreed with you and signed before the team starts work.
Membrane and battens before the boards
The team fixes the breather membrane across each wall to be clad, then sets out the battens over it. Every batten is fixed through the membrane into the masonry or timber frame behind.
Boards fixed and every edge trimmed
The team cuts each board to fit and fixes it to the manufacturer’s specification. Every corner and edge of the cladding is then finished with a trim.
A final inspection before the scaffold is struck
A director inspects the finished cladding from the scaffold and from the ground. The team makes any minor adjustment the inspection identifies before leaving the site.

Frequently asked questions
Take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions regarding our Wall Cladding Installation service in Winchester.
Can I stay in my Winchester home while the cladding is fitted?
Yes. Cladding is fixed to the outside face of each wall, so the team works from the tower scaffold or scaffolding at that wall and not from inside the house. The team protects your driveway and planting around that access for the whole installation.
Does the existing wall need work before cladding in Winchester?
Some walls need repair before cladding, and a sound wall receives the battens in its current condition. On St Giles’ Hill, some houses have chalk cob walls under stucco, and the stucco makes them look the same as the brick houses beside them. A batten fixing carries the weight of the boards, so it can lose its hold in any part of the wall that is loose. Any repair is a separate item on your written quote, so you see that work and its price before you accept.
Will the windows of a Winchester home look set back after cladding?
A little. The cladding brings the face of the wall forward, so each window sits deeper in its reveal. The team finishes every reveal with a trim cut to the window frame, closing the edge between the boards and the frame.
Which walls of a Winchester home should be clad?
The choice is between a single elevation, an extension, a porch and the whole house. A director measures each wall you name at the survey, and the written quote itemises those walls.
On a walled-core house with a gable in brick or hanging tiles, that gable end alone is a further choice.
Who will I deal with on a cladding project in Winchester?
One director. The same director surveys your walls, prepares the quote, agrees the access, oversees the team and inspects the finished cladding. Our own team carries out every stage of the installation, with no subcontracted labour.
Every project in our Winchester service area begins with a free site survey conducted by a director. Your written quote follows within 48 hours of that survey.
